In this paper Chapman charts her personal engagement with mumming in both Connecticut and New Mexico, reflecting on and detailing the practice of mumming and the meaning it carries for her, her family and friends. The paper also links with her more general consideration of mumming in New England, and particularly the relationship of mumming to The Revels as contemporary US performance forms. The seeds of this paper were first presented as part of an onstage 'conversation' with Steve Rowley at the 2011 Mummers Unconvention.
